Passionera Passionera

Vicent Garcés Queralt is the creator of the first Valencian ballet

Vicent Garcés Queralt (1906-1984) began his musical training with Manuel Palau in 1928, after completing his studies in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Barcelona. The lateness of his dedication to music was compensated by the speed with which he assimilated the compositional technique, since just two years later he completed his first work, the symphonic suite Bocetos Líricos. However, Garcés showed greater maturity in his second work, the ballet Passionera, composed during 1931 and whose scenic conception links with his first theatrical vocation that was reflected in two unpublished pieces that he wrote in 1926.

Passionera was written on stage and verses in Valencian by the poet Juan Lacomba (1900-1963), who studied Teaching and was a collaborator of the Valencian press, although he wrote most of his work in the Spanish language. The meeting is not documented, nor is the common work between poet and composer during the process of creating the work, so their artistic relationship can only be glimpsed in the scene notes and some data in Garcés' correspondence.
